Nivela Executive Director, Monica Araya, will be participating as a speaker at the 2016 TED Summit in Banff, Canada, a five-day event for the most engaged members of the global TED community. The Summit will take place on June 26-30, 2016.
The TEDSummit will bring together 111 thinkers and leaders from around the globe who will be presenting on a diversity of topics – from free speech and social justice to digital connectivity – to an audience of 1,000 people. Araya will be one of the three Latin American speakers at the Summit, alongside award-winning Brazilian filmmaker Julia Bacha and renowned Mexican-American academic and thinker Juan Enriquez.
Other countries represented by the speakers at the Summit include South Africa, Kenya, Syria, Palestine, India, Pakistan, Canada, the UK, Switzerland and the US among others.
The Summit will be organized in 5 sessions:
- Session 1: I, Human
- Session 2: Things we think we know
- Session 3: Building blocks
- Session 4: Pathways
- Session 5: Organizing principles

Araya will participate in Session 5 of the Summit alongside other notable leaders such as Jonathan Tepperman, global affairs thinker and managing editor of the bimonthly journal Foreign Affairs, and Pavan Sukhdev, a well-known Indian environmental economist who advocates for a shift towards inclusive green economies.
Monica Araya’s TED Talk will be 14 minutes long and will be focused on building a society free of fossil fuels.
